Remember the FJ Cruiser? of course you do! Did you know that 2014 was the last year it was sold? Sad/Happy day depending on your perspective but did you know that Australia (and a few other markets) have had them up until just recently? They are RHD and have slightly different bumpers and they are actually pretty popular for being relatively cheap, powerful and rugged. That chapter, however, is now coming to a close as its finally being discontinued there as well (boo hoo I know, they still get the 200 series AND the entire 70 series range). So lets all say goodbye, again, to the FJ Cruiser.
Also, enjoy some Cruiser heritage while you’re at it.

You can still get one, in a way.
Considering they’re both on the Prado platform. They’re not exactly the same, but you know. Or;
I think they should bring back the FJ as a 2-door 4runner. Because why not.

of a 4Runner. Although the J150 is a better chassis than the J120 that the FJ was based on. Great trucks either way though.

Always liked the retro-esque look of the FJ Cruiser. And having the third wiper was always neat in my book. I could see them making a great trail truck when/if the market for them ever bottoms out.

Yeah, don’t hold your breath...they are holding value like mad. They still make great trail rigs though.

The FJC is a sweet rig, If we were still in DINK mode I’d probably have one.

I like them on principle a lot, but their tragic dash, cramped interiors and pitiful cargo space leave me wanting a little more. Basically I would get a 4Runner all day every day over an FJ. The only exception would be for the fact that you could get it with a stick.

You can still rock an FJ with, say, one kid, but the step-in/step-out will be tiresome, especially for the mother.

I really like this things! I think they have a lot of personality. Then again I have very similar thoughts on the Honda Element too...

I really wanted one a few years back. I test drove it, and just couldn’t jive with the interior. I like the idea of the FJ Cruiser, though.

I like the interior, sans lack of cup holders.

I liked the looks, however I felt cramped and visibility was bad for me. I’m 6'4", and the windows seemed like how I’d probably feel in a Camaro as well, little mail slots.

Sorry, I thought you meant a different interior. Yeah I hate these interiors

Still rockin’ my ‘08 FJC. Probably because I never got around to the whole family thing.
When I bought it in late 2010 I could not find a same year/miles 4Runner for anywhere near the same money. And now I have a local dealer up to offering me $20k to trade it in with 140k miles on it.
Yeah, the interior is made by Fisher-Price and the rear windows are small, but after 7yrs of driving a commercial van those are like ‘first-world’ problems to me. I wanted a current, relatively simple, and reliable part-time 4x4 that still had some warranty left to take me to work every day and to the beach or hunting lease on weekends. I got ~19.5mpg on my last tank that was about 50/50 weekend road trip, a few days commuting, and even a short stint of two-lane passing that reached a speed with more than two numbers. It can do all that because I haven’t modified it 10 ways to Sunday. At some point I’ll put a 2in lift on it just because the OE suspension is going to have served its time. Maybe a flat utility roof rack. A snorkel because I WANT A DAMN SNORKEL SO JUST SHUT UP (lol). But no 50lb/ea E-Load tires. No high-dollar suspension. No giant light bar. I know without a doubt there is always room for improving every vehicle, but I also believe there is a point at which the next step away from the original stock condition is a step away from reliability and towards unnecessary complication. Keep it simple as you can. Really my biggest single issue with the truck is that Toyota gave it a ‘measly’ 19gal fuel tank when the same year 4Runner could hold 24gal. Bastards and their 400mi driving range...
It is what it is, and the FJC is definitely not for everybody. I sure wouldn’t have paid my own money for this truck if I had a family, a big trailer to tow, a longer daily commute, lived next door to the Rubicon, or any other number of reasons, but it works for me.
And, coincidentally, I’m okay with driving one of the few U.S. Toyota models in years that has more character than the average kitchen appliance.
